ConnectAbility Australia, a NSW-based not-for-profit organisation, aims to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their goals and dreams. With over 30 years of experience in the Hunter and Central Coast communities, ConnectAbility supports over 1,000 customers in Supported Independent Living, Community and Centre-based programs, Support Coordination, Capacity Building, Youth, and Allied Health.
We are excited to announce that a partnership is now in place with Inclusive Housing Australia (IHA) and Lighthouse Infrastructure, which will help us to increase the delivery of new housing projects and more purpose-built quality Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) in inclusive communities. Together, IHA, Lighthouse and ConnectAbility will co-design twelve new SDA homes with participants, families, staff and key stakeholders.
David Carey, CEO ConnectAbility, said:
“The landscape of disability housing is changing for the better. Today we have a better understanding of housing needs through co-design efforts from people with lived experience. ConnectAbility is a provider of services to people with a disability; Inclusive Housing Australia is an established provider of Specialist Disability Accommodation. This operates Lighthouse’s remarkable 20-year investment commitment, ensuring peace of mind for participants and their families. Together, we are building the homes of the future today.”
IHA is an established SDA provider with an operational footprint in Sydney, regional NSW and Brisbane. Lighthouse, a leading institutional investor in SDA, has been committed to the sector since its initial investment at scale in 2018. In 2022, Lighthouse established a dedicated SDA investment strategy, investing in 180 SDA homes across 73 locations throughout Australia, providing homes for 400 people.
James Hooper, Managing Director, Lighthouse Infrastructure, said:
"Our recent partnership with Inclusive Housing Australia positions us to deliver more purpose-built SDA in inclusive communities with long-term committed capital. IHA understands the critical importance of offering high-quality SDA options and managing people’s homes to ensure the best outcomes for people with disability. Jointly, we are excited to collaborate with ConnectAbility, a leading support provider that shares our vision of improving lives through exceptional housing solutions."
Together, we aim to foster a sense of community, innovation in housing, independence, and empowerment for people with disabilities in the NSW Hunter Region.
