Inclusive Housing Australia Supports NDIS Reforms to Improve Service Quality

  |     |   News

Inclusive Housing Australia (IHA) is proud to have contributed to the NDIS Commission’s consultation on the “Next Steps Regulation for In-Home and Housing Supports” discussion paper, which outlines important reforms to the sector. As a leader in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), we fully support the proposed separation of housing and support services, a step that will improve transparency, participant choice, and service quality.

Why We Believe These Reforms Are Crucial

At IHA, we believe that separating housing from living supports will provide a safer and more participant-focused experience. This separation reduces conflicts of interest and promotes better service delivery, enabling providers to focus on their areas of expertise – whether in housing or support.

These reforms are not just about compliance; they are about safeguarding the interests of people with disability and ensuring they have control over their own living arrangements. IHA has been modelling this separation for years, and we are well positioned to support other providers make this transition smoothly.

Key Positions on the Proposed Reforms

  • Promoting Transparency and Accountability: Separating SDA and SIL services creates clear lines of accountability and helps ensure that participants are truly at the centre of decision-making.

  • Supporting Freedom of Choice: When housing and support services are managed by different entities, participants gain more flexibility in selecting or changing their support services without worrying about their housing situation.

  • Specialised Expertise: This separation encourages providers to specialise and deliver high-quality services in their respective areas, leading to improved outcomes for participants.

As these reforms take shape, we invite Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers to reach out to us. We can assist with planning for this separation, ensuring that participants experience a smooth and positive transition. IHA is committed to supporting the sector as it evolves to meet higher standards.
